Hi John,
It is unconscionable that Congress just adjourned for a 6-week paid vacation WITHOUT extending the federal eviction moratorium.
This puts 15 million renters at risk of eviction tomorrow.
In response, Rep. Cori Bush slept outside the Capitol building last night to pressure her colleagues to extend the eviction moratorium.
In solidarity with Congresswoman Bush, I’m going to San Francisco to sleep outside Nancy Pelosi’s house.
This is a shoestring campaign, and I need your help to get to San Francisco. Can you donate now to fund my trip to San Francisco? I’m leaving this weekend.
Last winter, I occupied empty buildings to pressure the Tacoma city government to house our homeless people. Every time, I risked arrest. I stuck my neck out by volunteering as the media spokesperson, giving countless interviews to get our message out there. In response, rightwing extremists published my address online and threatened to go there to rape and kill me.
That’s how much I believe in this issue.
Meanwhile, my opponent Derek Kilmer said nothing about the moratorium lapsing — until I called him out for it. A day later, he tweeted, “I’ve been pushing for Congress to extend protections for folks facing evictions and am disappointed it didn't have the votes.”
While Kilmer is “disappointed,” I am taking action. I’m going to Nancy Pelosi’s house, but I need your help to get there. Please chip in $7 now to fund my trip.
Housing is a human right. Housing is life — literally. People die of exposure every winter.
It’s unacceptable that millionaires in Congress like Nancy Pelosi went back to their luxury homes for a 6-week paid vacation while 15 million people could get thrown out on the streets tomorrow. Congress should return immediately and reconvene for a vote to extend the moratorium.
Earlier this year, I spent several months living in a van. I understand the problem of homelessness on a personal level.
That’s why I’m going to sleep outside Nancy Pelosi’s house. Please give whatever you can right now to fund my trip.
Thank you,
-Rebecca Parson
