Hi John,

This week at the Global Education Summit in London, world leaders missed a
big opportunity to turn the tide on the learning crisis. The Global
Partnership for Education (GPE) — a fund designed to support children’s
education in low-income countries — fell $1 billion short of its funding
goal of at least $5 billion.

But campaigning efforts from ONE supporters and activists around the world
were not in vain. From the 85,000 signature petition, to [ [link removed] ]kids sharing
their favourite books, you helped get leaders to recognise the urgent
learning crisis worsened by COVID-19. The $4 billion pledged by donor
governments to GPE’s work will help get millions more children back into
the classroom and learning. Leaders of 19 low-income countries working
with GPE also pledged crucial funding for education for the next five
years.

Who is your favourite activist?

Earlier this month we celebrated Malala Day and Mandela Day: two

injustice. As part of the celebrations, we've composed [ [link removed] ]a list of ten
well known activists who lead, educate, and inspire us to change the world
and we want to know who your favourite is.

So far, over 5,000 supporters from around the globe have cast their vote!
Are you passionate about girls' right to education like Malala Yousafzai?
Or are you inspired to speak out on racial injustice like Nelson Mandela?

Africa faces devastating third wave of virus

African countries are facing a third wave of COVID-19 infections, which
threatens to be even more brutal than the two that came before. Between
June and July, cases rose by nearly 200% across Africa.

A huge cause for this third wave is the spread of new variants and
[ [link removed] ]unequal access to COVID-19 vaccines. Last week, the European Union
announced it would [ [link removed] ]share an additional 100 million COVID vaccine doses
with low-income countries. But with less than 3% of doses already pledged
being delivered, rich countries are failing to respond to the urgency of
the crisis.
