Hi Friend,

It’s been quite the month for Texas Democrats, and we’re not showing any signs of slowing down. So I wanted to reach out right away and introduce myself. My name is Angelica Luna Kaufman, and I’m the new Senior Communications Director here at the Texas Democratic Party. The first thing I’ll say: I am so excited to be diving headfirst into this fight alongside all of you.

I want to tell you a little bit about my background, and what I’m hoping to get done here together. But first, I have to ask: as we’re nearing our fundraising deadline to power all of our efforts in August, will you chip in $7 or whatever you can to our Texas Democratic fight right now?

Count me in: [link removed]

Joining the team here at the Texas Democratic Party, it feels like my career has come full circle. I spent twenty years in media, learning the ins and outs of a newsroom. But as a longtime Democratic volunteer and advocate, I’d always wanted to put those skills towards a greater purpose. Donald Trump’s reign of terror pushed me to take the leap -- and starting in 2020, I served as the communications director for the Harris County Democratic Party, helping to put the national spotlight on Harris County’s leadership to expand access to the ballot box.

Right now, Texas Democrats are in the national spotlight again -- fighting as hard as ever for our right to vote. In my new role, I’m going to work as hard as I can to keep that attention on our movement -- whether it’s getting powerful Texas Democratic spokespeople in front of the camera, or drawing on my relationships with reporters across the country. This is our moment to raise hell and show Republicans that if they want to attack our right to vote, they’d better be ready for a serious fight.

Friend, what pushes me forward is the fear of going backward. As a Latina and a fifth-generation Texan, I am lifted up on the shoulders of my family members who came before me. I know the struggles they faced before me -- and I know we have come so far. But that progress is fragile. As communities of color are once again facing attacks on our most basic rights, this movement is leading the fight to defend our progress.

I’m not letting up anytime soon, and I know you aren’t either. Will you chip in $7 or whatever you can to push our fight forward today?
