Fighting for Vital Coastal Restoration Funding
This week, I was proud to join Representative Troy Carter (D-La.) and Representative Garret Graves (R-La.) in offering and passing an amendment to the House Energy and Water bill highlighting the need for coastal restoration in Southeast Louisiana.
Our coastal wetlands serve as a first line of defense against powerful Gulf storms and protect Louisiana communities, families and businesses, while also providing critical habitat for wildlife and fisheries. Rebuilding our coast is essential to preserving our culture and strengthening our economy.
Support for the Louisiana Coastal Area program ensures that coastal restoration projects that utilize dredged sediment are able to move forward, guaranteeing that this material is used to rebuild our vanishing coast, not just wastefully dumped in the Gulf of Mexico.
Touring the new St. Tammany Cancer Center and Securing Funding for a Mobile Screening Bus
Earlier this month, I toured the St. Tammany Parish Hospital and the new St. Tammany Cancer Center. I was impressed by the facilities and state-of-the-art technology capable of providing the treatments and care necessary for cancer patients on the Northshore.
In addition, I announced that I secured $1 million in the House Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies (LHHS) subcommittee bill to purchase and operate a mobile screening bus to provide health screenings and education to residents in St. Tammany and Washington Parishes.
Routine cancer screenings are important in helping to detect cancer at an early stage and can save countless lives. In the fight against cancer, early detection and prevention are vital for leading a long and healthy life. This mobile screening program will provide residents on the Northshore with additional early screening and detection services, leading to better health outcomes in our communities.
Protecting Disabled Veterans' Second Amendment Rights
I joined House Republican Conference Secretary Richard Hudson (R-N.C.), Veterans Affairs Committee Ranking Member Mike Bost (R-Ill.), and military veterans for a press conference to discuss how a new rule on pistol stabilizing braces proposed by the Bureau of Alcohol, Firearms, Tobacco and Explosives (ATF) jeopardizes the ability of disabled combat veterans to exercise their Second Amendment rights. It is perplexing to see how the Biden Administration is trying to take away the Second Amendment rights of our disabled veterans. Click here or on the image below to watch my remarks.
