2021 may only be half over, but it feels like it’s been a LOT
longer.

The fight for robust investments in working people should not be taking
this long when Democrats control the House, Senate, and White House. Weeks
have been wasted as some tried to negotiate with an obstructionist
Republican party. Of course, the GOP is not going to support our
investments in workers, families, and communities. After all, not a single
one of them voted for the American Rescue Plan that put money in pockets
and shots in arms.

I'm used to
long fights for progressive change. Before I ever ran for elected office,
I was an organizer and activist in Seattle and across Washington state. I
helped lead forward our citywide minimum wage increase to $15, even though
big corporations tried to stop it. I continue that fight in Congress,
along with the many other fights that you know I hold dear to my heart —
the push for Medicare for All, a humane immigration system, racial
justice, fighting climate change, College for All, canceling student debt,
and much more.

You also know that I don’t take any corporate PAC money. None. Not a cent.
Big money just doesn’t belong in politics, because that money influences
lawmakers, their agenda, their decisions, and of course their votes. We
need lawmakers at every level of government working 100% for the people —
not for corporations. To be candid with you, big money in politics is one
of the reasons that Congress has delayed real investments in working
people for so long.
