The
Heritage Action Scorecard tracks many of the most defining votes in each session of Congress. Before important votes come to the floor, we issue a
Key Vote recommending to legislators how they should vote and why—it also serves as a notice that the vote will be included on the scorecard.
From time to time, we will also put out a
Key Vote Cosponsorship, encouraging members to cosponsor a bill, as a way to build support and energy to help it receive a vote, and hopefully adoption into law. That’s what we did this week!
We are including cosponsorship of Combating Racist Training in the Military Act of 2021 (S. 968 / H.R. 3134) on our scorecard. We are asking all members of Congress to back this legislation to keep CRT out of the military.
Why did we choose this bill? Because, even with a Democrat-controlled Congress, there is a strategic path to victory for this bill in 2021. Congress is working on passing the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), and Democrat Leadership will likely need Republican support to get it across the finish line. This creates leverage for conservatives, and an opportunity to add this bill as an amendment.
That’s why we are key voting this bill—to build support TODAY.
There are additional anti-CRT bills worthy of support, that we make mention of in our “
Reject CRT toolkit.” It’s important we do all we can to keep CRT out of our military, schools, and government. And remember, there is much you can do at the state and local level to combat CRT as well.
