John — this week San Francisco District Attorney Chesa Boudin took a huge step towards real public safety and public health — and we urgently need your help to defend this amazing progress against the dangerous recall effort threatening to stop it.
Chesa and a panel of experts including California State Senator Sydney Kamlager held a summit Wednesday to discuss behavioral health and public safety, addressing the need to promote public safety by prioritizing resources towards expanding treatment and housing, not punishment and incarceration.
Since San Franciscans elected him, Chesa has pushed for policies that divert funding from prisons and jails and help those with behavioral health needs get well, something that will never happen in a jail cell. These policies are not only fiscally responsible, they’re also backed overwhelmingly by research and voters across the state. But without your help they’re at risk.

Cities like San Francisco spend billions of dollars on jails and prisons but lack sufficient treatment beds. Wednesday’s summit spotlighted compassionate and effective policies to change that. Addressing behavioral health needs, and tackling the housing and overdose crises that often arise when those needs are unmet.
Chesa is spearheading real justice, using his office to transform a criminal legal system that is racist, oppressive, and preys on the poor and marginalized. But with less than two weeks left, the growing anti-justice recall movement is doubling down to stop that work in its tracks. We can’t let it happen.
We need you now more than ever to help us ensure the progress that was made this week can continue in San Francisco and beyond. Each call to voters helps us grow critical grassroots support for justice work Chesa is doing right now. That’s why YOUR calls are so important.
We’re running out of time. Please join a phone bank and spread the word. If you can’t volunteer, please donate to fund our organizing.
