John —

Rodney’s hearing ended yesterday and now his legal team is preparing written and oral arguments to be submitted to the court later this month.

Rodney’s legal team made the case that he deserves a new trial — not only because new evidence has been discovered, but also because prosecutors withheld evidence and experts gave misleading testimony in the original trial more than 20 years ago.

There’s been a lot going on, and we want to make sure you don’t miss anything. So if you haven’t already, take a moment to add your name to get breaking news updates about Rodney’s case [[link removed]] or text FREERODNEY to 52886.

In 1998, Rodney Reed, a Black man, was convicted of the 1996 murder of Stacey Stites, a white woman in Bastrop, Texas. For more than 20 years, Rodney has maintained his innocence. He says that he and Stacey were having a consensual relationship, which explains the presence of his DNA.

Last week, Rodney’s legal defense team — including Innocence Project staff attorney Jane Pucher — gave opening statements and presented witnesses, who testified to seeing Rodney and Stacey together and that the two did have a relationship. This week, the State presented their witnesses with cross examination from Innocence Project co-founder Barry Scheck.

We’re going to keep fighting until we get justice for Rodney and his family.

If you want to join this fight for Rodney’s life and be the first to get updates on his case, then sign up right now or text FREERODNEY to 52886:

Started in 1992 as a legal clinic at Cardozo School of Law, the Innocence Project is now an independent nonprofit, affiliated with Cardozo, that exonerates the wrongly convicted through DNA testing and reforms the criminal justice system to prevent future injustice.
