University President Luncheon

Governor DeWine and Lt. Governor Husted welcome several Presidents of public Ohio universities to the Governor's Residence.

Prior to the Inter-University Council of Ohio Council of Presidents press conference at the Statehouse on *Monday*, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine, First Lady Fran DeWine, and Lt. Governor Jon Husted met with the 14 public university presidents of Ohio for a luncheon at the Governor's Residence.

2021.07.26 Anti-Hazing Measures with University Presidents Press Conference

Following the luncheon*,?*Ohio Governor Mike DeWine delivered remarks at an Inter-University Council of Ohio Council of Presidents press conference, as they announced a new initiative demonstrating Ohio public universities? commitment to zero-tolerance for hazing.

"Today, we take one more step to drive hazing from the state of Ohio," Governor DeWine said. "When I signed this bill, I said this was a major step forward. Not only do we need to change the law, we need to change the culture?and to change culture is tough, but it is something we're going to change in this state."

Also on *Monday [ [link removed] ]*, Governor DeWine and Lt. Governor Husted announced the approval of assistance for six projects set to create 591 new jobs and retain 432 jobs statewide. During its monthly meeting, the Ohio Tax Credit Authority (TCA) reviewed economic development proposals brought to the board by JobsOhio and its regional partners. Collectively, the projects are expected to result in more than $38 million in new payroll and spur more than $30 million in investments across Ohio.

Projects approved by the TCA include:

*_CENTRAL
_FlightSafety International Inc., city of Columbus (Franklin Co.)*, expects to create 113 full-time positions, generating $10.2 million in new annual payroll and retaining $20.4 million in existing payroll as a result of the company?s new project in Columbus. FlightSafety is an aviation training company and supplier of flight simulators, visual systems, and displays to commercial, government, and military organizations. The TCA approved a 2.018 percent, nine-year Job Creation Tax Credit for this project.

*_NORTHEAST_*
*CBIZ Inc., city of Independence (Cuyahoga Co.)*, expects to create 25 full-time positions, generating $3 million in new annual payroll and retaining $34 million in existing payroll as a result of the company?s new project in Independence. CBIZ provides accounting, insurance, and other professional consulting services to businesses. The TCA approved a 2.040 percent, eight-year Job Creation Tax Credit for this project.

*_SOUTHWEST_*
*Century Mold Company Inc., city of Monroe (Butler Co.)*, expects to create 70 full-time positions, generating $3.7 million in new annual payroll and retaining $2.8 million in existing payroll as a result of the company?s expansion project in Monroe. Century Mold is a tier II supplier to the OEM automotive and heavy truck industries, supplying HVAC, powertrain, engine cooling, and functional plastic components and sub-systems. The TCA approved a 1.373 percent, seven-year Job Creation Tax Credit for this project.

*Tekion Corp., West Chester Township (Butler Co.)*, expects to create 103 full-time positions, generating $7.5 million in new annual payroll and retaining $142,000 in existing payroll as a result of the company?s new project in West Chester Township. Tekion is a developer of a cloud-built platform intended to connect digital experiences to automotive retail. The TCA approved a 1.818 percent, eight-year Job Creation Tax Credit for this project.

*The Hilsinger Company Parent LLC (Hilco Vision), city of Fairfield (Butler Co.)*, expects to create 200 full-time positions, generating $6.4 million in new annual payroll as a result of the company?s new project in Fairfield. Hilco Vision manufactures and distributes eye wear accessories, including cases, lens cloths, lens wipes, and kits. The TCA approved a 1.186 percent, seven-year Job Creation Tax Credit for this project.

*_WESTERN_*
*Barbaricum LLC, city of Dayton (Montgomery Co.)*, expects to create 80 full-time positions, generating $7.2 million in new annual payroll as a result of the company?s new project in Dayton. Barbaricum provides government clients with integrated communications, mission support, and cybersecurity and intelligence solutions. The TCA approved a 1.822 percent, eight-year Job Creation Tax Credit for this project.

Additionally, on *Monday*, Governor DeWine and Lt. Governor Husted met with Ohio State Patrol front-line staff, where they heard updates from the officers.

On *Tuesday [ [link removed] ]*,?Governor DeWine announced that?$5 million in grants is now available for local wetland projects aimed at improving water quality in the Ohio River Basin.

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) is administering the Ohio River Basin H2Ohio Wetland Grant Program as part of Governor DeWine's?H2Ohio [ [link removed] ]?initiative. The program is funded as part of Ohio's 2022-2023 budget which the Ohio General Assembly passed and Governor DeWine signed earlier this summer.

"Many new and restored H2Ohio wetlands are already working to reduce algal blooms on Lake Erie, and we're excited to continue expanding wetlands projects into other parts of the state," said Governor DeWine. "Everyone deserves clean water, and by targeting this grant funding to the Ohio River Basin, it will help ensure that communities here have the opportunity to invest in wetland projects to naturally improve water quality for future generations."

COLUMBUS INNOVATION DISTRICT BEAM PLACEMENT CEREMONY

On *Wednesday,*?Governor DeWine and Lt. Governor Husted attended the Columbus Innovation District Beam Placement Ceremony located at the construction site on the corner of Kenny Road and Lane Avenue. The new Columbus Innovation District building, which The Ohio State University, Nationwide Children's Hospital, and JobsOhio all have part in creating, will be a designated Interdisciplinary Research Facility where researchers will be able to make new developments pertaining to medicine, science, and engineering.

"The important thing is the research that is being done here and that will be done here will not just stay in the lab," Governor DeWine said. "The key is that it gets out. It will become state of the art treatments that make their way to the hands of doctors and nurses around the world."?

There are other Innovation Districts underway in Cleveland and Cincinnati.?The Columbus Innovation District?is?the third anchor in?the?strategy to build on Ohio?s growing dominance as a world leader in medical research and healthcare talent.??

Lt. Governor Husted at Cyber Security Meeting

Lt. Governor Husted and the CyberOhio Advisory Board discuss the Ohio Personal Privacy Act (House Bill 376).

On *Thursday,?*Lt. Governor Husted?attended a meeting with the CyberOhio Advisory Board where they discussed the Ohio Personal Privacy Act (House Bill 376), which would establish data rights for Ohioans while providing streamlined data standards for businesses.

The CyberOhio Advisory Board was founded initially by then-Attorney General Mike DeWine to provide legal, technical, and collaborative cybersecurity support to keep Ohioans? personal information secure and help businesses thrive. CyberOhio is now a part of the InnovateOhio initiative, which is overseen by Lt. Governor Jon Husted.

TOUR OF OHIO BUSINESS & FARM
Sign Solutions

The owner of Sign Solutions, Mike Powell, shows Governor DeWine an overview of their work and how the facility operates.

Additionally, on?*Thursday *morning, Governor DeWine toured Sign Solutions, a local business in Lima that received a small business relief grant from the Ohio Department of Development last year. The grants were offered to businesses with 25 employees or fewer to help pay for expenses associated with the COVID-19 pandemic.?Four separate small business grant programs [ [link removed] ] are currently accepting applications.

H2Ohio Farm Tour with Governor DeWine

Later that afternoon,?Governor DeWine visited a Henry County farm that is implementing several H2Ohio [ [link removed] ] best management practices to reduce nutrient runoff.?H2Ohio incentivizes farmers to implement proven conservation practices to help reduce the runoff of nutrients that contribute to algal blooms on Lake Erie.?

In the first year of the H2Ohio farmer incentive program, 1,800 farmers enrolled more than 1 million acres of cropland in the Maumee River Watershed. With funding from Ohio's new operating budget, the program is now expanding into 10 new counties [ [link removed] ] to help the state achieve its water quality goals.

Also on *Thursday*,?First Lady DeWine promoted the Ohio Governor?s Imagination Library program at two events. ?

First, she attended COSI?s Learning Lunchbox Giveaway in Cleveland, Ohio. An estimated?1,400 Ohio families were served at this?drive-through event, where they picked up COSI's Learning Lunchbox and a box of food from the Greater Cleveland Food Bank.?Included in every Lunchbox, parents was an enrollment forms for the Ohio Governor?s Imagination Library Program, which provides one free book per month to Ohio children from birth to age five. ?

Additionally, First Lady DeWine toured the Center for Women & Newborns at the Firelands Regional Medical Center in Sandusky, Ohio, where she saw the process for enrolling newborn infants into the Ohio Governor's Imagination Library. After the tour, First Lady DeWine read an Imagination Library book to preschool children.?

Late *Thursday [ [link removed] ]*, Governor Mike DeWine and Lt. Governor Jon Husted issued the following statement after learning a Franklin County judge denied the motion to reinstate the benefits provided under the Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation program:

"We are pleased with the decision. We have heard over and over again from employers who can?t find workers to fill open positions, and this policy helps both employers and workers. Our administration has focused on opportunities to help Ohioans find quality, well-paying jobs. As a result of the tough decisions we have made, Ohio's recovery is strong, unemployment claims are declining, and Ohio's unemployment rate is below the national average."

Governor DeWine helps cut the ribbon at the new Kroger Distribution Center

Governor DeWine helps cut the ribbon outside Kroger's first automated distribution center with several corporate management team members.

On *Friday*,?Governor DeWine joined Kroger's corporate management team and others for a ribbon cutting at the grocery chain's first automated distribution center in the United States. The?375,000 square-foot customer fulfillment center?uses artificial intelligence, advanced robotics, and automation to fill home delivery grocery orders in the Cincinnati and Dayton regions.

Water and Wastewater Infrastructure Grant

Also on *Friday [ [link removed] ]*,?Governor DeWine announced the launch of a new grant program that will invest hundreds of millions of dollars in the future of water infrastructure across the state.

The Ohio Water and Wastewater Infrastructure Grant Program, which is part of Governor DeWine's initiative to strategically invest in Ohio's future, is open to public and non-public entities that operate water systems across the state, with emphasis placed on addressing the needs of economically disadvantaged communities.??

?It is wrong that there are places in this state where clean water is not readily available, where sewage systems are crumbling, and where much-needed improvements are long overdue,? said Governor DeWine. ?Working with our local leaders, we're going to invest in the Ohio communities that need significant infrastructure upgrades to?ensure that they have access to clean, safe drinking water and reliable sewer infrastructure.?
