Reaching this specific 15,000 contribution fundraising goal is important because of one thing: potential challengers to Jamaal's seat.
And while Jamaal has no official challengers yet, it's likely that potential opponents to Jamaal's seat are waiting to see how redistricting in New York — currently scheduled to happen in a few months' time — will shake out before making their final decision to challenge him or not.
We know we can't directly control whether or not Jamaal will face a challenge in his next election, John. But what we can control is proving to our opposition that our movement has the resources, tools, and supporters to run a competitive campaign.
If we reach our goal of 15,000 contributions by tomorrow at midnight, we'll have tangible proof that campaigns don't need support from corporate PACs or lobbyists to succeed. We'll be able to show our opposition that people-powered campaigns like ours work — and that we're not going anywhere.
