Dear Friend --

In a resounding rejection of the corporate media’s non-stop propaganda campaign, people in cities across the United States participated in demonstrations July 24-26 to demand that President Biden lift the 243 sanctions on the country imposed by the Trump administration and an end to the criminal six-decade-long U.S. blockade of Cuba. Those that took the streets rightly attributed the hardships being experienced by the Cuban people to the cruel blockade that is aimed at making life unbearable.

As Cuba celebrated the annual July 26 holiday—which commemorates the raid on the Moncada Barracks in 1953 led by Fidel Castro that sparked the Cuban revolution of 1959—people across the U.S. stood in solidarity with Cuba and against U.S. imperialism’s six-decade crusade to overthrow Cuba’s revolutionary government. Many also raised the banner of Haitian independence and popular resistance that calls for the end to U.S. intervention in the country.

In Washington, D.C., hundreds rallied at the White House on Sunday. The action was organized by a coalition of Cuba solidarity and peace organizations. The demonstration also welcomed Carlos Lazo and six other Cuban-Americans who walked over 1,300 miles from Miami, Florida to Washington, D.C. to present the Biden administration with a petition bearing over 25,000 signatures calling for the lifting of sanctions on Cuba.

Carlos Lazo highlighted the widespread and broad opposition to the sanctions and blockade among people he met during his journey to Washington, demonstrating the disconnect between the people of the United States and the actions of the Biden administration. At the rally, ANSWER Coalition organizer Sean Blackmon pointed out to the crowd that “the U.S. invaded Cuba in 1898. It was an invasion. Just the beginning of the U.S. government trying to attack Cuban sovereignty, the very thing the Biden administration is doing right now.”

Actions were held in California, Nevada, Texas, Utah, Minnesota, North Carolina, Florida, New York and many more states!
