Don't Trash Oldham recruitment opportunity
This week the council announced plans to put an extra £1.27m into cleaning up our borough as part of a new ‘Don’t Trash Oldham’ campaign. That’s because we know clean streets are important to you and we know lots of you already love where you live.

As part of the investment – which is on top of the money we already spend clearing up litter and fly-tipping – we’ll be employing more street cleaning staff and enforcement officers. We’ll also be creating two new teams to clear fly-tipping.

There are a number of jobs available ([link removed]) – the closing date is 1 August.

Over the coming weeks and months our staff will also be carrying out a one off deep clean of your neighbourhood, so it looks clean and tidy. Once we’ve cleaned up then it’s over to you and your neighbours to keep it clean – the council can’t keep coming back to clean up. We’ll be in touch to let you know when we’ll be cleaning up your area.

If you would like to help clean up your area, the council can support community litter-picks by lending equipment and picking up bagged waste if we are given prior notice. Contact [email protected] (mailto:[email protected]) for more information.

Help spread the words of our summer activities offer
There is a range of activities and events going on across the borough this summer for children and young people to get involved with, including holiday clubs, sports, drama, art – you name it, it's happening. There are also lots of free places available to those eligible for benefits-related free school meals.

We want to get as many youngsters involved as possible so tell your friends and family about it. To see exactly what's planned visit our holiday activities webpage ([link removed]) .

Download the 50 things to do app
The 50 Things app has come to Oldham to bring new experiences and educational activities for children under 5.

The app highlights all the great low or no cost family activities that are available right here in Oldham. It’s also a great resource to learn more about children’s development, along with finding out about fun events to get involved with.

To download the app search for “50 things to do” in the Apple app store ([link removed]) or for Android phones use the Google Play Store ([link removed]≷=GB) .

Next steps after exam results

If you’re the parent of a young person, then you’ll know that they’ll be collecting their A-Level and GCSE results on the 10 and 12 August.

It’s been a very strange time and many of them have missed months of education due to the pandemic and they might be feeling a little more anxious than usual. So, we want to reassure them that, whatever the outcome, there are lots of opportunities available to them.

Whether they are going to continue their studies or look for advice on other work-related opportunities, there’s lots of support out there in Oldham to help them on the right path.

Have you experienced domestic abuse?
Oldham’s Domestic Abuse Partnership has teamed up with domestic abuse charity SafeLives UK to improve the way we support people who have lived experience of domestic abuse.

Part of improving how things work means that we need to listen to those who have had these experiences. To help us gather this information a survey ([link removed]) has been set up to listen to survivor feedback.

This survey will not ask you any personal questions about your experience of abuse, just about the support you needed as a result of it. It should only take around ten minutes to complete.

All of the information gathered will be completely confidential and anonymised in a final report.
