Hi Friend,
Ever since our Texas Democratic lawmakers made their stand and went to D.C. earlier this month, I’ve felt quite the mix of emotions. Our lawmakers are fighting exactly as hard as we need them to -- and as a Texan and a Democrat, it’s been moving, exciting, and beyond powerful. I must say, I wish we would move beyond this place where we are still fighting for something that everyone deserves in the greatest land of democracy.
Friend, what I keep coming back to is what this means to me as a mom and for my daughter’s future. I could not be more grateful to our lawmakers -- who are fighting not just for our right to vote today, but for the right of our kids and grandkids to make their voice heard at the ballot box. I truly believe our future is at stake.

You know, there’s a whole lot to worry about as a parent right now. It breaks my heart that in 2021, we are still fighting for a future where our children’s right to vote is secure. And Greg Abbott and Texas Republicans are not just attacking our right to vote -- they are also putting kids, teachers, and families in danger by refusing to let our schools take precautions against COVID-19. Who plays politics with children?
But you know what? As scary and infuriating as it is, I’m also hopeful. Our movement, our coalition, and our Democratic lawmakers are showing Greg Abbott that he cannot harm our communities with impunity. The entire country is watching as we lead the fight for change. And like we’ve done in the past, we are standing for justice and finding good trouble to be a part of. Will you stand with me in this fight to protect our vote?
In solidarity and power to the people,
Dr. Carla Brailey
