Today, the National Women’s Law Center and our partners filed an amicus brief in support of the U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team’s equal pay lawsuit against U.S. Soccer. In 2019, 28 players on the USWNT filed a lawsuit against the U.S. Soccer Federation to address the massive differences in pay compared to the U.S. Men’s National Team— hundreds of millions of dollars less.

I don’t know about you, John, but to me, bringing in substantially more money for their employers, winning more games, and securing two world championships when the men’s team has…. not—it seems like an open-and-shut case for equal pay. Yet here we are, more than two years later, and U.S. Soccer is still on their sexist BS and denying professional, world-class athletes their rightful dues. Enough is enough.

This fight isn’t just about one team or one industry—it’s about making things equal for all of us. U.S. Soccer is fighting to keep a sexist plan in place that could set an example for more than just the women’s soccer team. We can’t let that happen. Not paying people equally is a form of sex and race discrimination. Pay inequality exists in every single industry—and as long-time advocates for equal pay, it’s our responsibility to shut it down whenever we see it.
