This month, President Joe Biden's Child Tax Credit went into effect. It will help lift millions of children out of poverty -- including countless families in our region.
This is a huge deal, friend. Passing big, bold policies through Congress is a rare occurrence these days, but it wasn’t always that way.
Fifty-six years ago today, the Social Security Act Amendments were signed into law, establishing Medicare and Medicaid. These programs have become such vitally important parts of our country – so critical to providing health care – it's hard to imagine what it was like before they existed.
Medicare and Medicaid are the kind of big, bold things we can accomplish when Congress gets stuff done. There's too much gridlock and partisan bickering in Washington D.C., and not enough focus on delivering results to the American people. I'm working hard to change all of that because I didn't run for office to score cheap political points: I ran to get stuff done.
Right now, as Chair of the House Select Committee on the Modernization of Congress, I'm working to fix Congress so it can get more things done -- big, bold things like Medicare and Medicaid and the expanded Child Tax Credit -- because that's what the American people deserve.
That's what my committee is all about. I'm committed to doing whatever it takes to break the gridlock and get Congress back to working for the people.
Change requires us doing something different, friend, and I'm ready to make change. If you're with me, donate to my campaign today before tomorrow's end-of-month deadline to support our fight for the people.

Together, we can keep thinking big and bold -- and start getting more done.
As always, it's an honor to represent you,
Derek
