Each year, the Law Center honors and celebrates leaders who raise awareness about and advance solutions to end homelessness and poverty. These prestigious awards are presented to innovative change-makers who are fighting for a future where everyone has a place to call home.

This year, the Law Center is proud to present the Stewart B. McKinney Award to The Walt Disney Company and to Baker McKenzie. These two groups have provided valuable pro bono legal service that assisted in the creation of the Washington, DC Homeless Youth Handbook, a critical resource to aid and empower the youth experiencing homelessness alone in the Nation’s capital—and to support these vulnerable young people on a path to a better future. Together they have produced an exemplary and important resource, which aims to put the power of the law into the hands of homeless youth—quite literally. Through a mobile-friendly website, the resource provides young people and their advocates 24/7 access to up-to-date information in a format that is understandable and easy to use.

The Stewart B. McKinney Award is given to those who display important leadership in taking steps to prevent and end homelessness. The resource provided with the handbook these two honorees have helped create truly leads the way for homelessness advocacy by providing dedicated support to an important in-need population. In helping DC’s homeless youth with this handbook today, we take a step towards ensuring them a housed future tomorrow.

We hope you will join us at the McKinney-Vento awards to celebrate our honorees’ work. Tickets are on sale now[[link removed]], and you can also become a sponsor here[[link removed]].
