John: We both know the GOP has wanted to overturn Roe v. Wade for years. But now, they might finally get what they want: Republicans handpicked a Supreme Court willing to enact their authoritarian agenda.
Here's how the GOP plans to make women more vulnerable than ever before.
Mississippi is telling the Supreme Court to uphold their ban on abortions after just 15 weeks. But it gets worse. They're urging the justices to overturn Roe V. Wade, too. This Mississippi case could spell the end of safe and legal abortion in America. It's a perfect storm, engineered by GOP cynicism.
The Supreme Court defended abortion rights last year, but it's not the same court. Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, a defender of American women, is gone. She's been replaced with a Trump appointee, a committed anti-choice activist -- and the court boasts six conservative justices now.
This case is dangerous for American women. A ruling in favor of the Mississippi ban would open the door to terrifying new restrictions nationwide. Our reproductive rights might disappear with a bang. But they might get weakened, a case at a time -- quietly enough that we don't jump in to defend them.
So, John, we need to make one thing very, very clear to the GOP: We're not willing to stand by while they throw women under the bus.
Anti-choice activists are loud and unyielding. We need to be louder. That's why we're joining a nationwide petition to pressure Congress into codifying Roe v.
