Community Solar: Sign Up Today!

In case you missed the story on CBS News 2 yesterday (watch the video here ([link removed]) ), we’ve partnered with Solar One, NYCHA, and others to install 1.2 MW-DC of solar on NYCHA rooftops in East Harlem and Brooklyn. This community solar project, called Community Power, was built by locals for locals. We trained members of the community to do the installations, and now we’re recruiting Con Edison customers who live in affordable housing to sign-up for this renewable energy. You can save more $120 a year on your electricity costs, you won't have to install panels on your roof, and the power will flow just like it currently does - rain or shine, day or night. LAST CHANCE: We’ve partnered with the Center for Sustainable Futures at Columbia’s Teachers College ([link removed]) to survey parents of schoolchildren in Harlem to better align sustainability education with parents’ social, environmental, and economic concerns. If you are a parent of child in school in Harlem (110th-155th Streets), please take this anonymous survey – available in English & Spanish – by August 1. Take the Survey ([link removed])

Green & Healthy Schools for NYC: New York City schools are fully reopening this fall, and we want to make sure they are prepared for the realities of how COVID-19 and the climate crisis have impacted our communities. As part of the Climate Works for All ([link removed]) coalition, we ask you to sign this petition to urge Mayor Bill de Blasio to build green, healthy schools to protect our children and our environment while creating good, green jobs. Sign the Petition ([link removed])

Civilian Climate Corps: We have joined the Adirondack Council ([link removed]) and other members of our JustGreen Partnership ([link removed]) in calling for a Civilian Climate Corps, a youthful workforce dedicated to conservation and sustainable infrastructure projects to address climate issues. This is being debated in Washington, so we urge you to click this link and send an email of support to your federal representatives. Click & Send ([link removed])

Get Toxics Out of Beauty Products: Through our Beauty Inside Out campaign ([link removed]) , we’ve been working to raise awareness of the toxics in beauty and other personal care products – especially those products being marketed to people of color. Here’s your chance to turn that awareness into legislation. Click this link to send a letter to your U.S. Representative asking them to co-sponsor the federal Safer Beauty Bill package.
