John:
I’d like to talk to you today about why I support reforming the filibuster. This is not a decision I came to lightly, but I believe the stakes are far too high for inaction.
Democrats have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to improve the lives of millions of Americans. We have only held the House, Senate and White House for four of the past 28 years.
Now is our moment to make good on the promises we made to the American people—to do what we were elected to do . That means rebuilding our nation’s crumbling infrastructure and investing in an economic recovery that helps all Americans, not just massive corporations.
That means protecting our democracy and the right to vote by passing HR-1 in the face of Republican-led voter suppression bills sweeping the country.
That means passing common sense gun safety reforms —like universal background checks, a federal gun trafficking ban and a ban on assault weapons.
Let me be clear—I pride myself on working across the aisle to get things done. I can find common ground with just about anyone in Washington. But we cannot afford to allow Mitch McConnell and Senate Republicans to abuse an undemocratic Senate procedure to prevent progress on critically important and widely popular legislation.
If you agree that it’s time for the Senate to get rid of the filibuster, please add your name now. [[link removed]]
I appreciate you standing with me in this fight.
Thank you,
Kirsten
