In 2018, thanks to the tireless efforts of activists like you, a blue wave of progressive House Representatives swept into Congress. Now, they are acting on their promise to hold corrupt Republicans and the Trump administration to account, and impeaching Trump himself. This is what happens when people vote. To truly create an America that is welcoming rather than bigoted, caring rather than corrupt, we need to replicate that success again and again.

Don’t wait until 2020 to get involved - election season is already here! Important elections are happening this year, 2019, in San Francisco, and all around the country.

So get ready to vote on November 5th! If you live in San Francisco, the deadline to register to vote is October 21 ([link removed][UNIQID]) . You can vote provisionally at any time up to and including election day, but it’s better to register - check your registration status here ([link removed][UNIQID]) .

For our endorsements, and all the information on the city election, check out our 2019 voter guide here ([link removed][UNIQID]) .

Help us GOTV around the country!

Our friends at Democracy Action ([link removed][UNIQID]) and Swing Left ([link removed][UNIQID]) are already running phone banks, text banks and postcarding sessions multiple times a week for crucial elections in Virginia, Arizona, North Carolina, California and more. We list them in the Upcoming Events section of the newsletter, and on our website.

We are also text-banking with Open Progress Text Troop ([link removed][UNIQID]) to GOTV for crucial state and local races.

Finally, join us at Pints & Postcards at Standard Deviant! Our letters reminding voters to register and vote make a big difference! Or, write letters from home using Vote Forward ([link removed][UNIQID]) ’s website.

One of the persistent issues in American politics, and indeed across the world, is money in politics. Corporate impunity has led to regulatory capture, massive corruption, rising economic inequality, and runaway climate change. For years, activists here and abroad have resisted the corporate takeover of government and the economy by launching the Global Campaign to Dismantle Corporate Power and Stop Impunity.

The campaign is fighting to propose legal methods for holding corporations accountable for their actions and tackle their influence on governments, build solidarity with communities resisting violations of human rights by corporations, and develop a People’s International Treaty on economic and political alternatives.

This week, under pressure from this campaign, a working group of the U.N. Human Rights Council will debate a legally-binding treaty ([link removed][UNIQID]) to “regulate, in International Human Rights Law, the activities of transnational corporations and other business enterprises.”

This is a crucial development - read more about the campaign on our blog ([link removed][UNIQID]) .

How can you help?

Stand with those around the world who are fighting for economic and political justice by posting a photo of yourself with the hashtags #BindingTreaty and #StopTNCImpunity and a message of solidarity demanding that government officials act to rein in corporate power. If you're a Twitter user, post: “Today, I stand with people around the world in calling for an international treaty to rein in corporate abuse. We need a #BindingTreaty to #StopTNCImpunity and #MakeThemPay.”

Governor Newsom signed SB24! This makes medication for abortion available in student health centers at California’s public state colleges and universities. Thank you to every ISF member who called their Assemblymember, State Senator, and the Governor to make this happen!

Governor Newsom signed AB32! This bill closes private prisons and immigrant detention centers in California. Our friends at the Bay Area Asylum Coalition have pushed hard for this bill and we’re happy and grateful that it passed!
