Statement from President Richard Trumka
By every measure, our PRO Act Week of Action was an incredible success. Thousands of union members took to the streets to make our voices hear. One hundred senators have the ability to pass the PRO Act, but we showed that we hold the power in our hands to make the PRO Act the law of the land. Our opponents may try to knock us down, but we demonstrated that our movement has momentum. Through postcard events, rallies, marches, car caravans and so many other actions, we showed all 100 senators that we will accept nothing less than the PRO Act.
Statement from Executive Director Fred Yamashita
Last Friday, over 100 union members were joined by AFL-CIO Executive Vice President Tefere Gebre (UFCW) and Doug Moore, executive director of UDW/AFSCME 3930. We took to the streets and marched in the pouring rain to demand action from Arizona's Democratic senators. Senators Kyrsten Sinema and Mark Kelly pride themselves on their bipartisanship and their commitment to representing all Arizonans, yet when polling shows that 66% of Arizonans support the PRO Act, they are silent. We marched to ask them to prove their commitment to bipartisanship by supporting Arizona's working families and co-sponsor the PRO Act.
