Driving a Youth Employment Agenda
|
CLASP and The New Deal for Youth’s Changemakers have been actively engaged with the Biden-Harris Administration in driving a youth employment agenda. Last week, we co-hosted an Instagram Live event with the White House Office of Public Engagement following a briefing on how the Build Back Better agenda will create a better future for young Americans. Our Instagram event provided a space to hear from young people directly about the administration’s agenda. Earlier this week CLASP’s Duy Pham, along with Changemakers Sixto-Cancel and Isabel Coronado, spoke at a White House roundtable on youth employment. And CNN quoted CLASP and Changemakers in a recent story on the Biden-Harris Administration’s commitment to actively engaging young people.

Anniversary of ADA

For 31 years, the Americans with Disabilities Act has led to significant improvements in the lives of people who live with disabilities. Brianna Johnson blogged about why we have even more to do to assure economic and social justice, particularly since people with disabilities are more likely to be unemployed (or underemployed) and to live in poverty. Ashley Burnside’s recent blog explains how Congress can promote disability justice with reforms to the Supplemental Security Income program. |

Mandatory Child Care Funding

In partnership with the National Women’s Law Center and The Century Foundation, we published a fact sheet explaining the importance to the child care sector of mandatory federal funding. Such funding is especially important for advancing equity, as Alyssa Fortner outlines in this blog. |

Subsidized Jobs and the Recovery
|
As policymakers continue planning for a successful economic recovery, subsidized jobs are a critical strategy for reaching many people who face challenges in the labor market. In a new fact sheet, we outline how subsidized employment is particularly important for getting youth and young adults who’ve been impacted by the criminal legal system into the labor force. We also published a new explainer providing an overview of subsidized jobs.
