It’s official: Over 100 companies have made commitments to go cage-free throughout their global supply chains—marking a major milestone for the global movement to protect animals from abuse.
Free from the confinement of cages, millions of birds will no longer be forced to endure every waking minute confined to a space the size of an iPad, standing painfully on a wire mesh floor. With these cage-free policies, hens around the world will finally have a chance to spread their wings. 🐥
Our coalition of Open Wing Alliance partner organizations and compassionate supporters like you are to thank for this global move away from confining hens in battery cages. Without a doubt—we did this together.
Over the years, I’ve witnessed our movement for egg-laying hens extend to all corners of the world. From fast-food conglomerates to supermarket giants to hotel chains, over 100 global corporations have promised to stop using cruel cages—proving that the movement to end the abuse of animals is showing no signs of slowing down.
It’s led me and many others to wonder what’s stopping one multinational corporation, Yum! Brands (owner of chains such as Taco Bell, KFC, and Pizza Hut), from joining the pack. With more and more lawmakers enacting legislation to ban cages, industries that are moving towards phasing cages out, and consumers crying out for change—the shift away from the use of archaic methods should be a no-brainer.
Why is Yum! choosing to hold back on a policy when it's in the best interest of animals and its customers? I plan to ask its top decision-makers that very question.
