We can put an end to dirty energy subsidies right now.
John,
The U.S. government gives out $15 billion in handouts to fracking and fossil fuel corporations every year.
Right now, we have the chance to end these dirty energy subsidies as part of the infrastructure negotiations in Washington. But some senators are standing up for polluting corporations instead of people. In fact, just this week, Senator Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ) said she doesn’t support the proposed plan.
We are in a climate emergency — we can’t let obstructionists like Senator Sinema stand in the way of real climate action!
Government handouts to polluting corporations are driving an unprecedented expansion of U.S. fossil fuel development. Over the next 10 years, the U.S. is on track to account for 60 percent of global growth in oil and gas production — and every taxpayer dollar the federal government gives away to prop up dirty energy makes it more difficult to achieve the 100% renewable energy future we need to avoid climate chaos.
Subsidizing dirty energy corporations is reckless, but we can stop it. Food & Water Action is working closely with allies in Congress, educating lawmakers, organizing directly with dozens of communities, and mobilizing thousands of people across the country to let Members of Congress and the President know their constituents demand an end to fossil fuel subsidies that are burning our planet.
Food & Water Action has been working for over a decade to keep fossil fuels in the ground. And we’ve led the fight to ban fracking in hundreds of communities across the country. It’s because of your support that we’ve been able to check the dangerous power of corrupt corporations and their government enablers.
We now have a real opportunity to make climate progress during a time when it’s becoming painfully obvious that we need it.
As a candidate, President Biden promised to end subsidies for the fossil fuel industry. Don’t let corporate obstructionists like Kyrsten Sinema stand in the way — it’s time for Congress to end the federal bankroll of climate-killing corporations.
