The extremist group Cowboys for Trump has been campaigning across our state, collecting donations and promoting Trump’s far-right agenda. While doing so, they have attempted to operate off the grid by denying their status as a political group in order to avoid publicly disclosing their donors.
But their efforts to unlawfully interfere with our elections here in New Mexico will not be successful — not on my watch.
Since day one of Cowboys for Trump's unwelcome presence here, I've stood up to these bullies every step of the way. As Secretary of State, I refuse to allow this hateful extremist group to get away with their flagrant disregard for our campaign finance laws and make a mockery of our elections.
Last year, I successfully secured a court ruling that required Cowboys for Trump to register as a political action committee. They, of course, refused to comply. So recently, I filed a petition for an arbitrator's order which demanded that the group pay $7,800 in fines to the state, register as a PAC within 15 days, and file biannual campaign finance reports.
While Cowboys for Trump continues to evade compliance, their fines continue to accrue — and you can count on me to do everything in my power to hold them accountable and stop any PAC who tries to operate illegally in our state.
