Hello Somebody!
From the day we announced in this race, our goal has been and continues to be an issue oriented campaign that centers the need to improve the material conditions of the people of Ohio’s 11th Congressional District.
It has saddened me that instead of a substantive debate about the needs of the people of this district, out of state Dark Money corporate interests who do not want to solve these problems – who in fact profit from these problems continuing – have hijacked this race with millions of dollars of negative and dishonest advertising.
If you can afford it, please make a contribution to our campaign today. The ONLY way we’re going to have the resources to get out the vote in the final 5 days is with a massive surge of grassroots support. We’re counting on you to help bring this thing home. [[link removed]]
We have focused on the need to raise wages for all working people and to pass a $15 minimum wage.
We have focused on ensuring that health care is a right for all people, not just the wealthy.
We have focused on the need to guarantee pay equity for hardworking women across this country.
We have focused on protecting and improving Social Security.
We have focused on ending the continuing plague of police violence against Black people and other people of color, and all vestiges of systemic racism.
We have focused on ensuring every child and every grandchild, including my own beloved grandson, can live in a world that is peaceful and safe from the threat of catastrophic climate change.
How we move forward to solve these problems – to make life better for this generation and the next – that is what we hoped would be debated during this important campaign.
We knew it might happen, but I don’t think anyone knew that Washington lobbyists representing Big Oil, big banks and the big drug companies would feel so threatened by a daughter of Cleveland whose only agenda is to make the lives of everyday people better.
Sadly, they have now been joined by a slew of large Republican donors including Trump Republicans like Patriots owner Robert Kraft.
Despite the smears and negative attacks, this campaign, and the people across this district who support our people-centered agenda of change, remain unbowed. As I travel across the district – from Cleveland to Akron, in the cities and the suburbs, I am so gratified by people I meet who are not taken in by the tsunami of dishonest negative advertising. And that’s because they know me. I didn’t arrive on the political scene yesterday.
And they know that from the beginning of my political career I have fought, however imperfectly, for the working families of Ohio.
They know me as a City Councilor who fought for senior housing.
They know me as the Ohio Senate Democratic Whip fighting to protect women’s reproductive freedom and the rights of labor.
They know me as the co-chair of the Ohio’s Task Force on Community and Police Relation, where I served with the late great Rep. Louis Stokes and Sen. George Voinovich.
They know me as the Chair of Party Engagement for the Ohio Democratic Party where I worked to expand the Democratic Party.
They know that work has continued as a sitting member of the Democratic National Committee, as a two time delegate for Barack Obama, as a tenured professor, and as a wife, a mother and a grandmother.
The people of this district know me from all this work. And if they do me the honor of choosing me next Tuesday, they know I will continue to be a fighter for them and their families, not the caricature that you see in the grainy TV ads. They know I will be a fighter for them because I always have been.
In the final days of this campaign, I ask the people of this community to allow me to continue to serve them – to fight for them – to strive with them to improve the material conditions of people everywhere.
To continue to push for an economy where people can not just keep up, but also get ahead.
To continue the work to create a nation where every person in every zip code can live in social dignity. These are the challenges ahead.
Please, make a contribution to our 100% people-powered campaign today. There are just 5 days left until Election Day, so your contribution today makes a BIG difference at a critical moment. [[link removed]]
As we have all seen first hand in this race, the forces opposed to this justice agenda are powerful and they have basically unlimited money.
But we have something they do not. And that is the people. The people I have met throughout this campaign have been incredible. I ask in love and solidarity for your support to be their voice for change in Washington.
With these hands,
Nina
Election Day is just 5 days away, and the ONLY way we’re going to be able to fight back against the waves of corporate cash and Super PAC spending flooding into this race to stop us is with a surge of individual donations.
