Friends,
Mass shootings have shaken too many of our communities to the core. We cannot accept gun violence in our schools, movie theaters, concert venues, and streets as normal, nor can we accept any notion that we are powerless to stop it.
We’ve seen young people rise to the cause to demand Congress take action against the gun violence epidemic. My colleagues and I in the 116th Congress heard them loud and clear. They are why we were able to pass BIPARTISAN legislation through the House in February that would require background checks on all gun sales and close a loophole that allows guns to fall into the wrong hands.
More than seven months later, Mitch McConnell has refused to bring our bill to the Senate floor for a vote, completely stalling our efforts to save lives.
As a Moms Demand Action Gun Sense Candidate who was endorsed by the Gabby Giffords-led PAC Giffords: Courage to Fight Gun Violence, I made a promise to lift up the voices of people who are active around these issues.
We can pass universal background checks, put a ban on the sale of assault weapons, and pass a red flag law that would allow family members and the justice system to intervene and prevent someone from doing harm to themselves or others.
Thank you for standing with me,
Chris
