Each year, fellow colleagues, allies, and friends come together to celebrate our shared work for economic, racial, and climate justice at the ALIGN Movement Builders Awards. I’m honored to have been named one of this year’s Movement Builders, alongside Maurice Mitchell, National Director of the Working Families Party, and the Sunrise Movement.

2019 has also been an exciting year for ALIGN, which has seen the hard work of organizing coalitions and campaigns yield inspiring wins on climate action and holding corporate greed accountable to our neighborhoods and workers.
Most of all, I am proud of our work together to ensure that thousands of workers, no matter what immigration status, are treated with dignity and respect in New York City’s commercial waste industry. Right now, we are nearing the finish line on a multi-year campaign to transform this “race to the bottom” industry and make sure that these are good, safe jobs.
ALIGN’s work over nearly a decade has been critical to creating the path that we’re on now toward a more truly progressive state. Join me in celebrating the progress we are making together and supporting ALIGN to continue their central work in building our shared movement.
