Friend,

Simone Biles acted with courage and bravery this week by prioritizing her mental health over the pressure to perform. A role model for everyone, Simone shared the following powerful message:

“We have to protect our minds and our bodies and not just go out there and do what the world wants us to do.” — Simone Biles

One of the most respected athletes in the world, Simone is paving the way for people everywhere to choose self-care over public expectation. For anyone who’s dealt with mental health concerns (including myself), it was a poignant reminder that mental health matters.

About one in four Americans deal with a diagnosable mental health disorder in a given year. Yet, our society continues to stigmatize mental health concerns despite their measurable effects and overwhelming pervasiveness.

Long overdue — it’s time for Congress to make mental health care an accessible and essential part of comprehensive health care.

Mental health care has been one of my legislative priorities from my very first day in office. This year, I introduced the Mental Health Services for Students Act which expands mental health resources in schools for kids, teachers, and administrators.

It’s an important step to expand mental health care access and it already passed the House with overwhelmingly bipartisan support. It’s time for the Senate to take action.

With our end of month deadline 48 hours away — can you pitch in right now to support my fight advocating for mental health? Every contribution helps me keep fighting in the Senate.
