Dear
Friend
--
This week your Long Beach City Government, CSULB, and LBCC all
implemented a mandatory vaccine or weekly negative COVID-19 test
program for employees and students. While all these programs are
slightly different to meet each institution's needs, they take on this
pandemic and model responsible public leadership. A huge thank you to
these institutions and the leaders making these tough but important
decisions. Additionally, LBUSD is strongly encouraging vaccination for
their employees with additional requirements being discussed.
Yesterday, we had the opportunity to address our community and urge
people to get vaccinated against COVID-19. Vaccines are safe, free,
and effective; and it's especially important for people to be
vaccinated now as there are only about 4 more weeks left before
students in Long Beach will return to class. Two-dose vaccines require
three to four weeks between doses, and it's essential for a safe
return to classrooms that everyone 12 and over in our Long Beach
schools be fully vaccinated for the new academic year.
I want to thank the 72% of adults in Long Beach that have gotten
their vaccine already, and ask each of you to reach out to the people
you know who are unvaccinated and encourage them to do their part. I
also want to thank CSULB President Conoley,
LBCC Superintendent-President Munoz, and LBUSD Superintendent Baker
for joining me, and for their leadership and partnership as we work to
beat COVID-19.

Thank you,
Mayor Robert Garcia
