CNN ([link removed]) (10/15/19) reports: "Air miles programs should be banned and a levy on frequent flyers implemented in order to reduce carbon emissions from aviation, according to new research. The measure is one of a number of recommendations from Richard Carmichael at Imperial College London, who published a report Thursday on how the UK can meet its target of net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. Carmichael carried out his report for the Committee on Climate Change (CCC), an independent body that advises the UK government, which has previously said the country needed to become carbon-neutral by 2050 in order to fulfill its obligations under the Paris Agreement on climate change. The UK later became the first major economy to legally commit to the target. This report does not represent CCC's recommendations. 'Flying is a uniquely high-impact activity and is the quickest and cheapest way for a consumer to increase their carbon
footprint,' the report says. Air miles programs encourage people to take extra flights to keep up their 'privileged traveler status' and should be banned, according to the report. So-called 'mileage runs' are a common way for travelers to top up their points in order to maintain access to perks such as priority boarding. An air miles levy would be based on the number of miles flown by each passenger, penalizing those who fly the most while leaving the majority of people unaffected."

Gail Bradbrook, one of the founders of the group that is half way through two weeks of actions around the world, climbed onto the top of the entrance of the transport ministry to protest at a high-speed rail project known as HS2. 'This is nature defending herself,' Bradbrook said, as civil servants looked on from a gallery inside the building and police cordoned the street. 'I’m doing this for your children.' Invoking the example of women’s suffrage
activist Emmeline Pankhurst, Bradbrook tried to smash one of the ministry’s windows with a hammer and screwdriver before she was brought down by a police climber in a cherry-picker and arrested...The activists oppose plans to run the HS2 rail project through ancient woodlands. The ministry says the rail line will slash journey times between central and northern England and the capital and be much more efficient in carbon terms than driving...Extinction Rebellion said HS2 would damage or destroy 108 ancient woodlands in the largest single act of deforestation in Britain since World War One."

CBS News ([link removed]) (10/14/19) reports: "Drive-thru windows at fast-food restaurants, banks and other businesses have long represented the convenience for which American businesses are renowned. But the ease of idling in a vehicle while waiting for your order is now associated with another development: climate change. As a result, some communities across the U.S. are banning drive-thrus, citing the additional carbon emissions that are released. Minneapolis this summer banned construction of new drive-thrus, while officials in Long Beach, California, have imposed a six-month ban on new drive-thrus while they study the issue. Similar ordinances restricting or prohibiting fast-food windows have also been adopted in communities including Creve Coeur, Missouri; Fair Haven, New Jersey; and Orchard Park, New York...Most of the bans are intended to curtail emissions, cut down on litter and make it easier to walk around
business areas, while some towns are motivated by a desire to improve the aesthetics of a community. At other times, such bans have been touted as a means of fighting obesity by discouraging fast-food consumption. There's conflicting research on whether banning drive-thru windows improves health, however."

Why do the greens want you to be in the dark about where the EV tax credit handouts are going?

(10/16/19) reports: "Polling experts are questioning a conservative energy group's surveys that show voters in key states opposing a federal tax credit for electric vehicles...The ** survey ([link removed])
of Michigan voters, for example, stated: "About half of all electric vehicles sold in the United States are sold in California. The citizens of the State of Michigan should not help pay for those who buy electric vehicles in California." Around 76% of Michigan survey respondents agreed with that statement, while 14% disagreed and 10% said they didn't know or refused to answer the question...In addition, the survey pointed out that the average EV owner who claims the federal tax credit earns more than $150,000 per year. That elicited more disapproval of the subsidy from respondents. Tom Pyle, president of AEA, said the survey demonstrated the importance of educating voters about the EV tax credit and its association with wealthy Californians....Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), chairman of the Finance Committee, is considering whether to include the EV tax credit in such a package, which would also address the production tax credit (PTC) for wind energy...Pyle said he hopes Grassley takes note
of the surveys. "What we're suggesting is it wouldn't be wise to expand the EV tax credit," he said. "We would certainly prefer for it to go away, but we would not like to see it not expanded in any tax extenders package."...In the survey of 800 likely Maine voters, 74% of respondents agreed with the statement "Electric cars might be a good choice for some, but those purchases should not be paid for by other consumers." Pyle said the surveys show Collins is out of touch with her constituents and faces a tough battle for a fifth term. "She should look at the polling to see her constituents don't think they should be paying for people who buy electric vehicles," Pyle said of Collins. "She's not going to out-Democrat a Democrat with respect to subsidies," he added. "So she's probably better off not signing on to this massive wealth transfer."

(10/10/19) column: "Electric vehicles stand at the center of every 'green energy' initiative. Multiple jurisdictions mandate and subsidize the inevitable transition to 'clean' transportation. Some policymakers have gone further, setting deadlines for outright bans on the internal-combustion engine (ICE), and Green pundits regularly issue forecasts promising the imminent dominance of electric vehicles (EVs). The EV is central to the notion that we’re on the cusp of a grand shift to a 'new-energy economy.' In addition to its putative environmental benefits, the EV, we’re told, is a better machine than an ICE. It’s easier to manufacture, uses less labor, and will—eventually—cost less. Since consumers will soon demand an all-EV future, we should embrace policies to accelerate the transition. Rarely have so many claims about a product been so wrong...Changing a car’s fuel source is about as revolutionary as changing the feed for a horse. Choosing a battery over an ICE isn’t a revolution. It’s
an option—an expensive one—that reduces neither total labor nor environmental impacts."

Now imagine how upset the people who are actually affected and didn't play a role in creating this mess are.

(10/15/19) reports: "California officials are not happy about Pacific Gas & Electric's handling of its massive fire-prevention power outage last week. Gov. Gavin Newsom and state regulators on Monday demanded that PG&E address the communications and technology breakdowns that marred its response to the outage and find ways to limit the disruption from future such events. Newsom sent a letter to PG&E CEO Bill Johnson, decrying the 'extreme failures' in the state’s largest-ever 'public safety power shutoff,' or PSPS, event. PG&E’s phased outages across more than 30 Northern California counties affected more than 700,000 customer accounts, or more than 2 million people, starting early Wednesday morning and lasting through the weekend."
