Friend – It was just announced that the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act (PWFA) will get a vote in the Senate's Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions next Tuesday. That means we have a crucial window before the markup to show that PWFA has strong support by encouraging all of our senators to take action on the rights of pregnant workers everywhere:
ACLU Supporter, as a reminder of why the PWFA is so critical right now: Even in 2021, employers can still fire pregnant employees – or force them to quit or take unpaid leave – instead of providing temporary and reasonable accommodations, even as simple as a chair to sit on. This reality forces far too many people, often the sole breadwinners of families, to either lose income or put their pregnancy at risk – impacting low-wage workers, those in physically demanding jobs, and people of color the most. But the PWFA combats this, requiring employers to make those reasonable accommodations for pregnant workers without placing an undue burden on the business. This is a common-sense bill with bipartisan support already – and the more support we can gain now, the more likely we are to secure a victory when it moves to a vote in committee and on the Senate floor. So send a message to your senators today and together, we can ensure the PWFA's swift passage. Thanks for taking action, Vania Leveille |
