Big Spring Clean on Shortwood Close

castle

*Big Spring Clean on Shortwood Close *

*Your local Councillors, Angharad Roberts and Sam Webster*, were glad to see the ‘Big Spring Clean’ day of activity on 18 June at Shortwood Close to cut back weeds and tidy the alleyways. This work brought together teams from Nottingham City Homes and Nottingham City Council and it was great that a number of local residents were also able to help out on the day.

*Mel Barrett, Chief Executive of Nottingham City Council, was also able to see the activity under way*, whilst joining the Councillors for a ward walk and listening to residents’ comments and concerns.

Nottingham Canal wins Green Flag award
flag 2

*The entire five mile length of the Nottingham Beeston Canal, which connects communities from Trent Bridge to Beeston, has been awarded prestigious Green Flag status.*

In a year when use of the towpath has increased as people have looked closer to home for a relaxing green space to get their daily exercise, the canal has been named alongside more than 2,000 of the best open spaces across the country.

It’s the first time the canal has received Green Flag status and in making the award the judges described it as *‘a wonderful and invaluable site that links the city to the suburbs and countryside, providing so many facilities for wildlife, leisure and transport links’.*

Did you know that time spent outdoors and near water makes you feel happier and healthier? Find a walk or bike ride others enjoy along the canal at Plot a route [ [link removed] ]
