Dear John,
From Wales to Watford, we have seen our supporter letters appear
in newspapers across the country.
Would you consider joining many Best for Britain supporters who
have already written to their local newspapers about the danger posed
by Elections Bill?
Millions of people read local newspapers, and the letters section
is often the most read after the front page. It’s quick and
easy. We’ve provided a template message at the bottom of this
email.
Simply copy and paste our template into a new
email. Feel free to add any thoughts you have on the issue.
Then send it on to your local newspaper. The email address you
need should be on their website.
Let us know when you’ve sent your letter by clicking the
link below. MPs will vote on the Elections Bill the moment
Parliament returns from its summer break. Act now to ensure
your letter is published in time.
While
contacting your MP online with Hey-MP.uk is
brilliant, many MPs still rely on their local paper to
get an idea of their constituents’ views, and the comments section in
particular. It's also your chance to make a difference in your
community, and see your name in print.
Before your MP returns to Parliament in September, let’s make sure
the whole country is talking about the Elections
Bill.
Best wishes,
Cary Mitchell, Director of
Operations, Best for Britain
To the editor,
The newly published Elections Bill will allow
ministers to define and curtail ‘campaigning’, could make coordinating
opposition an offence, and permits political meddling in the Electoral
Commission.
A free election is one where unaffiliated
organisations, charities and even the person on the street can be part
of the debate. And where independent groups like Best for Britain, can
provide voters with information on parties
and their policies.
By putting restrictions on campaigning and cross-party
co-operation, this bill stifles healthy opposition. It is
an attack on the foundations of our democracy.
Yours sincerely,
