Hello John,
In the NYCI Pre-Budget 2020 submission, we called on Government to give young people and the youth sector a fair share in Budget 2020.
The €2m in additional investment in youth work announced in last week's Budget is a welcome development, but falls well short of what is required to provide adequate support for the youth work sector.
As we have been campaigning on the discriminatory cuts to Jobseeker’s Allowance for the under 26s for a number of years, we welcome the changes in the budget, which we estimate will benefit about 2,000 young people.
As a package of measures and investment, Budget 2020 was disappointing and did not deliver the fair share young people and the youth sector need and deserve.
You can download our Post-Budget analysis to see how budget 2020 will affect young people and see our detailed analysis of measures addressing the following issues in particular:
- Investment in Voluntary Youth Organisations and Youth Work Services
- Long-term Youth Unemployment
- Equality for Young Jobseekers
- Tackling Youth Homelessness
If you have questions on any of the above, please get in contact,
Yours sincerely,
James Doorley
