Jack, a person's access to the ballot box shouldn't depend on where they live, but that is exactly what we are seeing Republican-led states.
According to the Brennan Center for Justice, since the 2020 elections,18 states have enacted 30 laws making it harder to cast your vote. The laws include a variety of tactics like making it harder to vote by mail, limiting early voting options, purging voter registration rolls, and hasher ID requirements.
The For the People Act, which has passed the House of Representatives and has majority support in the U.S. Senate, is transformational policy that would outlaw many of these tactics. Unfortunately, Senate Republicans would prefer if less people voted, and are using the filibuster to block this bill from becoming law.
Until federal legislation to protect our right to vote is signed into law, we are going to have to dig deep, get local and fight in the key states and communities where the right to vote is under attack. That's why I am asking you to donate $1 to these 19 grassroots organizations that are not only working to block restrictive voting bills in their states, but to educate voters about their rights and turn them out to vote despite any new restrictions Republicans are able to institute.
