One of the hardest parts of being a gun violence survivor and working with other survivors at Brady is knowing firsthand the toll gun violence takes and knowing that senseless violence is preventable. We're turning our pain into purpose — but we can't win this fight alone.
Banning assault weapons is a vital step toward making sure no other families endure the pain Gilroy survivors — and countless others — have.

John, tomorrow marks two years since a shooter wearing tactical gear broke into the Gilroy Garlic Festival in California and used a military-style assault weapon — a weapon of war — to murder three people and injure 12 more.
|
|
What should have been a carefree day for families and neighbors turned into a senseless tragedy. And what should have been another turning point for gun violence prevention turned into more of the same — no legislative response to the shooting. I'm tired of our congressional leaders' inaction — but I'll never back down from this fight and what's right.

Gun violence survivors like me have been fighting for tangible change and pushing through our own grief for years — all while watching other countries address gun violence as the urgent crisis it is. Here in the U.S., we've tried so hard and suffered so much loss, yet — thanks to the NRA and its ironclad grip on politicians like Mitch McConnell — nothing has changed.
