[8]Betting on the Future of Youth Sports

New York became the first state to legalize sports betting with a carve-out
for youth sports—an idea the [9]Sports & Society Program introduced
[10]three years ago. 1% of tax revenue in the first year and $5 million
annually after that will fund community-based recreation. While the numbers
may be modest, Tom Farrey, executive director of the program, believes this
[11]model could be used in other parts of the country.

[15]America Needs Family-Centric Infrastructure

Infrastructure requires big thinking, but there are no universal solutions.
Government spending must take into account how new systems and networks
[16]integrate with the communities and cultures that it is built to serve.
Families should have a say in how we build and rebuild, and if not,
disparities will continue to grow, says Shandiin Herrera, a [17]Center for
Native American Youth 2019 Champion for Change.

[28]The Long Reach of the Aspen Prize

The [29]Aspen Prize for Community College Excellence awarded by the
[30]College Excellence Program identifies and elevates exemplary community
colleges that ensure student success. According to [31]The Chronicle of
Higher Education, 24 of the 30 two-year colleges receiving donations from
noted philanthropist MacKenzie Scott have been Aspen Prize winners or
finalists in the last decade. “Not a coincidence,” observes the Chronicle,
which praises the “prize for the rigor of its evaluation and its staying
power.”
