The Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games are underway, and they represent a series of firsts: the first time the modern Olympic Games have ever been postponed and the first time openly transgender athletes will compete at the Games.

Athletes are speaking out about the unfairness:

  • Inga Thompson, a three-time Olympic cyclist who competed at the 1984, 1988, and 1992 Olympics, says it is unfair for biological males to compete against female athletes due to male physical advantages.
  • Selina Soule, a decorated college track athlete, worries about the opportunities that female athletes will lose to biological males.
  • Cynthia Monteleone, a Team USA World Masters track champion specializing in the 400 meter, and her daughter, both whom have competed against biological males in their women’s track careers, are explaining how it hurts female athletes and undermines fair play in sports.

CHAMPION MESSAGE

“I seek out those who haven’t been given a head start in life. It’s not because I’m doing anyone a favor. It’s a business decision for me. I dug my future out of the ground, and I want to surround myself with other people who, if given the chance, will do the same today.”

HURTING NOT HELPING

An Interest Rate Cap Will Actually Hurt Small Borrowers

On Thursday, the Senate Banking Committee, led by Chairman Sherrod Brown (D-OH), will host a hearing entitled, “Protecting Americans from Debt Traps by Extending the Military’s 36% Interest Rate Cap to Everyone.” Don’t let the noble-sounding title fool you. If Congress and President Biden approve of extending the Military Lending Act’s (MLA) 36% rate cap for all consumers—not just military veterans—this would devastate the financially vulnerable by reducing their access to credit. It could very well push our most disadvantaged citizens to underground financial products in an unregulated, shadow economy. Share this story.

Schumer to Forge Ahead on Infrastructure Bill This Weekend

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer announced yesterday that "Senators should prepare to work through the weekend in order to finish the bipartisan infrastructure bill." While he claims that this bill is "bipartisan," it's part of a larger very partisan agenda that has little to do with infrastructure—and everything to do with the Democrats' liberal agenda (e.g. massive spending, subsidized government daycare, free college and extreme climate change policy proposals). Schumer plans on using a tricky legislative tactic (budget resolution) to pass the second part of this massive "infrastructure" plan through the Senate without ANY Republican votes. How "bipartisan" of him!

Speak up and share your thoughts about the infrastructure bill by taking this quick 1-question poll.

TWO TRUTHS & A LIE

Transgender Athletes in Women's Sports

Transgender athletes competing in women’s sports are making headlines, especially with the first transgender athlete competing against women in the Tokyo Olympics.

Can you identify which of the following statements is not true?

A. Without separate men’s and women’s sports, female athletes wouldn’t have the same athletic opportunities as men.
B. Federal law requires American schools to provide equal athletic opportunities for males and females.
C. Allowing transgender women to participate in women’s sports won’t negatively affect athletes who were born female.

When #MeToo and Congress Team Up, Sexual Harassment Victims Lose

The “Ending Forced Arbitration of Sexual Assault & Sexual Harassment Act,” introduced in the Senate on July 14, sounds like a proposal to help victims of sexual violence. Don’t be fooled. If enacted, the legislation will make it more difficult and more costly for many victims to seek justice.
