John: The House Select Committee investigating the January 6 insurrection held its first hearing yesterday. The police officers who bravely defended the Capitol shared devastating testimonies about what they experienced that day—and the ways the events continue to haunt them: “What makes the struggle harder and more painful is to know so many of my fellow citizens, including so many of the people I put my life at risk to defend, are downplaying or outright denying what happened.” "Telling the truth shouldn't be hard. Fighting on Jan. 6 — that was hard. Showing up Jan. 7 — that was hard.” Yet Donald Trump referred to the rioters THIS MONTH as “peaceful people.” And most national Republicans are too cowardly—too terrified of the former president and his control over the GOP—to stand up for what is right. The future of our democracy depends on holding everyone involved in the insurrection accountable for the events that day. With extremist Republicans peddling conspiracy theories and trying to cover up Trump’s involvement, this couldn’t be more essential. Thank you for adding your voice and standing up for democracy. - Off the Sidelines
