Fair Fight Action’s Hot Call Summer campaign is fully underway! Thanks to the tireless efforts of advocates like you, so far we’ve driven more than 50,000 calls to U.S. Senators in support of the For the People Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act.
This week, we’re turning the heat up on Congress to demand they set national standards to ensure fair districts and put an end to partisan gerrymandering. Voters are doing their jobs by turning out to vote, and it’s up to Congress to do theirs by ensuring that voters can make their voices heard. See more below!
Please join us Thursday, July 29 at 8pm ET for a conversation between Fair Fight Action Founder Stacey Abrams and award-winning actress, producer, and change agent Yara Shahidi. Tune in via YouTube, Facebook, or Twitter.
In addition to joining us for Thursday’s event, be sure that you’re calling your Senators every day at 888-453-3211 to demand they take urgent action to protect the freedom to vote.
Below are some key points to emphasize when calling your Senators about the For The People Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act.
What to Say To Your Senators
It is imperative that Congress pass the For the People Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act before state legislatures begin special sessions on the once-in-a-decade redistricting process, which could happen as soon as September. We need urgent federal action to ensure fair districts and put an end to partisan gerrymandering.
Want some more information? Feel free to share the following with your Senators: We must pass both the For the People Act to ban anti-voter partisan gerrymandering and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act to ensure jurisdictions don’t find new insidious ways to redraw districts to silence the voices of voters of color.
Keep reading for more information to share!
The Supreme Court’s 2019 refusal to restrict partisan gerrymandering has given license to state legislatures to redraw legislative districts in antidemocratic ways that allow politicians to pick their voters and silence the voices of voters of color.
- Our country does better when our legislators look like their voters, and when voters can hold their leaders to account. That’s why we need the For the People Act to ban partisan gerrymandering and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act to ensure jurisdictions don’t find new ways to redraw districts to dilute the voices of voters of color.
We’ll be back next week with more ways to turn up the heat! And remember to tune in TOMORROW, July 29 at 8pm ET on YouTube, Facebook, or Twitter for a conversation with Stacey Abrams and Yara Shahidi.
Thank you for your support and activism,
Team Fair Fight Action
