** Challenging Inclusivity at Generation Equality Forum Paris
------------------------------------------------------------
The Generation Equality Forum Paris Forum was the most important opportunity we have had in nearly three decades to center the power, participation, and well-being of women, girls, trans, gender non-binary and intersex people. From June 30 -July 2, 2021, UAF participated in the GEF where we continued advocating and challenging inclusivity and institutional barriers for civil society organizations and WHRD’s.

Join us in welcoming UAF’s new Finance Associate, Shareka Thomas!
Shareka brings over ten years of experience in accounting and finance, in both the nonprofit and for-profit sectors. Her passion lies in using her love for numbers to support and grow organizations that seek to help those often overlooked.
She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics & Business from Agnes Scott College. Her studies of economics developed her curiosity in researching a wide array of topics across a global spectrum. Her attendance at a women’s college that “educates women to think deeply, live honorably and engage the intellectual and social challenges of their times,” uniquely mirrors the values of the Urgent Action Fund.

** Introducing UAF's Beijing +25 Advocacy Grantees
------------------------------------------------------------
In 2021, UAF made 23 grants to intersectional feminist activists engaging with the Beijing+25 Process. This is the first time we have made these types of grants!
Our Beijing +25 Advocacy grants aim to provide support to groups who are excluded from the Beijing +25 processes so they can actively participate and gain access to the highest levels of decision-making to ensure they have a say in shaping global decisions on gender. Through this grant, UAF was able to resource movements across a diverse range of countries, issues, and strategies.
UAF is excited and proud to introduce you to our Beijing +25 Advocacy grantees:
** Treaty People Gathering
------------------------------------------------------------
From June 5^th-8^th, 2021 more than 2,000 water protectors and indigenous-led movements took action to protect indigenous land from extractive industries at an event called Treaty People Gathering. Treaty People Gathering was a weekend-long event of nonviolent direct action in support of treaty rights and climate justice as Enbridge continues construction through Anishinaabe treaty land and the Mississippi Headwaters.
As part of this mobilization effort, water protectors and indigenous groups headed to Minnesota and called on U.S. President Biden to stop the Line 3 pipeline. If completed, Line 3 would carry over 700,000 barrels of tar sands oil from Canada into the US each day. It would have a climate impact on par with Keystone and pose an existential threat to waterways like the Mississippi River.
In the past, Indigenous-led movements have paved the way to the cancelation of the Keystone Pipeline. Now through this mass, nonviolent direct action, #TreatyPeopleGathering can help halt the construction of Line 3. Join our partners in the campaign to Stop Line 3 ([link removed]) and take action today by sending a message to President Biden ([link removed]) to shut down the pipeline. You can also donate in support of the Indigenous organizers ([link removed]) and bail funds for those arrested during the protests.
** Trust, Relationships, and Burn-out
