Child marriage in the U.S.Worldwide, roughly 12 million girls below the age of 18 marry each year. It may be hard to fathom, but some of those child marriages happen right here in our country. Recently, Rhode Island and New York became only the fifth and sixth states to outlaw child marriage without exceptions. Lawmakers still have a long way to go in the other 44 U.S. states.
