Our democracy is in crisis: with redistricting around the corner and hundreds of voter suppression laws being introduced in states across the country, we do not have time to wait.
Every day we’re getting closer to a very real deadline to take action to pass the For the People Act (S.1): If the Senate does not overcome the filibuster and pass S. 1 by late August, states will not have enough time to implement the legislation’s regulations before the 2022 midterm elections!
If you’ve never attended a virtual phonebank before, don’t worry – our partners at Common Cause are experts at training people on how to make calls, and the first few minutes of every single shift is dedicated to training. There are shifts available every day of the week, sometimes with multiple options in a day, so you can phonebank at a time that’s the most convenient for YOUR schedule.
With the current wave of voter suppression laws moving through state legislatures, the For the People Act will be critical to making sure that all voters are able to participate in our upcoming national and state elections.
Now is our best chance to demand a democracy where people shape our government rather than the wealthy and corporations; our chance to fight for voters of color; our chance to make voting easier and more accessible. We must seize this moment.
It’s urgent that we work together to spread the word about the importance of the For the People Act before the August deadline – and these virtual phonebanks are a fun, safe way to do just that.
