Dear Friend —
Just last week, the Belarusian Justice Ministry moved to shut down our sister organization, PEN Belarus. This is just the latest in a series of attacks from the Belarusian government against human rights organizations and media outlets, in an effort to suppress the truth and keep the world from hearing about the crackdowns and human rights abuses in Belarus.
PROTECT THE FREEDOM TO WRITE ([link removed])
Since 1989, PEN Belarus has been instrumental in supporting writers and protecting free expression in the country—and now faces imminent closure. When a government silences and stomps on its writers, it reveals a level of shame and decay that leaders are aiming to hide, but instead only expose. Despite the attempts of despots and authoritarian leaders, we know that the stories of the people will be told. But we need your support in order to keep those stories alive.
Make a contribution today to protect the freedom to write in Belarus and beyond. ([link removed]) With your help, we can stand together against the forces of tyranny to make it clear that the vital voices of the Belarusian people will be heard, and that we will do everything we can to protect their freedom to write.
Thank you,
