"We demand Congress make billionaires and millionaires pay their fair share to fully invest in public transit nationwide. Americans want money for buses, not Bezos in the American Jobs Plan final deal."

Friend,
While Jeff Bezos and other billionaires have seen their wealth skyrocket by $1.8 trillion during the pandemic, our communities have fallen behind.[1] What’s worse, corporations and billionaires haven’t paid their fair share of taxes—which could provide us with trillions of dollars to invest in community needs like public transit and clean water infrastructure.
Now, Congress is debating a huge infrastructure bill and budget resolution that could help us begin to address the economic and climate crises.
But Republicans and some Democrats are opposing funding for public transit in the legislative package. They would rather protect tax cuts for the wealthy than reduce greenhouse gas emissions or ensure that millions of working people can access jobs, education, healthy food, and more.
I’m joining with allies across the country demanding Congress fund buses, not Bezos. Sign the petition today to fight to expand access to public transit, which we can afford by making the rich and corporations pay their fair share.
Last week, Jeff Bezos spent billions of dollars for a few minutes in space. Did you know that if Elizabeth Warren’s wealth tax was enacted, he would have owed $5.7 BILLION in taxes last year?1 Instead, Bezos―the richest man in the world―paid $0 in federal income taxes in 2017 and 2019.2
While the media has had a field day covering Billionaires in Space, what would actually be exceptional is billionaires paying their fair share to end poverty and ensure everyone has clean water and air.
Investments in public transit will generate jobs, combat racial injustices, and begin to reverse the devastating impacts of the climate crisis. This is especially important for communities like my majority-Black district. We're on the frontlines of the climate crisis, having been screwed over by big polluters for years. Environmental justice activists in our community have been pushing for change, and I've been proud to fight alongside them my whole career.
Will you join me, activists in my district, and allies across the country, in demanding Congress fund buses, not Bezos? Sign the petition today >>
Together, we’re demanding investments in working people, which we can afford by making the rich and corporations finally pay their fair share.
Always serving you,
Rashida
