COMMUNIST PARTY USA

Tell your senators:

Pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Act!

Dear John,

The CPUSA launched Summer of Struggle 2021 to fight for voting rights, immigration rights, the right to organize, and a clean planet for future generations. Get involved! Start by signing this pledge [ [link removed] ] to participate in the campaign.

Be a part of this struggle and demand that your senator support the passage of the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act (VRAA). This act was passed by the House but is gathering dust in the Senate.

The VRAA would reverse the U.S. Supreme Court's "Shelby" decision, which in 2013 gutted section 5 of the 1965 Voting Rights Act that required approval of changes in voting procedures in states that had a history of racial discrimination in voting. Sure enough, immediately after "Shelby", states implemented discriminatory voting laws, closed voting places, and removed hundreds of thousands of voters from the rolls.

The VRAA will restore and amend the original VRA. It will also provide voter protections to Native Americans, including equal access to voter registration, polling places, early voting locations, and mail-in ballots.

Start by contacting your senator [ [link removed] ] by phone, email, postal mail, or even better, all three. If your senator does not support VRAA, remind him or her that the Senate voted unanimously in 2006 to renew the 1965 Voting Rights Act. It's likely that your senator occupied their office in 2006, but click here [ [link removed] ] to confirm, then remind them that they voted yes in 2006 and "demand" that they vote yes this year.

Even if your senator supports the VRAA, they need to hear from you so they'll lobby harder with their colleagues. Congress needs to hear from millions of Americans. Will you be one of them? Call the Capitol switchboard at 202-224-3121 now.

What else can you do? Party clubs and members can organize tabling, rallies, sit-ins, door knocking, social media campaigns, anything to educate the public to lobby their senators to vote yes on the VRAA. Ally with the Poor People's Campaign [ [link removed] ] and other groups in your area who are working on voting rights.

And remember to sign the pledge [ [link removed] ] to participate in the Summer of Struggle. Read more about the campaign here [ [link removed] ].

Yours in struggle,

Rossana & Joe
