Friend, 

Just as predicted, my opponent from 2016 who has been searching for three years, has found an opponent to run against me in 2020. I am looking forward to a vigorous race ahead and the opportunity to defend Washington's voting system and the incredible steps forward that we have made over the past seven years. 

My former opponent recruited a former employee of hers from the State Democratic Party: a lawyer who has never overseen the administration of an election, and has worked for highly partisan national figures including Harry Reid and Hillary Clinton. If my race in 2016 is any indication, my former and current opponents will spend a great deal of money pushing false and misleading attacks on my record and Washington’s nationally-recognized election system.

I have no doubt a great deal of money will be spent in attempts to distort my record and mislead voters in 2020. Unfortunately, the fundraising freeze is only two months away but my newly announced opponent won't be bared from fundraising at all. I need your help to make up for the lost time I am about to incur.

As the 2020 election draws closer, you’ll hear from angry voices on the right and on the left that our elections can’t be trusted, or that you shouldn’t have faith that your vote is counted fairly and securely. I will continue to stand against these incorrect statements and champion voter confidence in our elections process, just like I have my entire career of overseeing elections.
