Dear Friend,

As a member of the Veterans’ Affairs Committee, keeping the promises we’ve made to our veterans is a top priority. It’s why I worked tirelessly with folks in both parties to secure the Garland VA Medical Center, which is now open and serving veterans across our community.

Today, the House passed my bipartisan bill which authorizes major VA construction projects across the country, including a Spinal Cord Injury Center at the Dallas VA. This will create jobs and help serve many of our veterans who deal with these kinds of injuries. Our veterans deserve the best services available, and this bill will help us keep those promises and meet the needs of our growing veteran population.

As the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq wind down, we are reminded that there is a new generation of service members who need our support -- whether it is coping with the stress of their service, getting medical care or finding a good job. That’s why I fought hard for this bill and I am glad it has also passed the Senate and is now headed to the President’s desk.

The project in Dallas will construct a 30-bed Long Term Care Spinal Cord Injury Center, with the capacity to expand to 60 beds. It also includes other key construction projects to help the Dallas VA best serve these injured veterans like a warehouse and administration building, parking garage, and central plant improvements. In addition to providing long-term care for the medical complications of spinal cord injuries and disorders, the center will provide a residential setting in which highly dependent or medically complex veterans could live on a long-term basis, receiving the specialized environment, staff skills and equipment that they require.

As always, my team and I are always here to answer your questions and help with any issues you have with the VA or other federal agencies. If you would like to contact me, please send an email, or call my office at 972-972-7949.

It is an honor to serve North Texas, where I was born and raised.

Sincerely,
