Youth of Color Take Action in Preventing Sexual Harassment in Bay Area

BY ESHA POTHARAJU | In order to make Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) safer for females and gender-expansive people, Reminie Chaidez and 99 other paid youth joined forces with Alliance for Girls to launch a campaign against gender-based violence in the country’s fifth largest transit system.

“Youth are the legacy of public transportation. We want other people to take this as an example and ask their local transit agencies to do the same.”

 
 
 
Data Science and Its Diversity Problems

BY LAUREN CHURCH and CAROL STABILE | Like tech industries in general, the field of data science has a problem: Research suggests only 15 percent of data scientists are women, and fewer than 3 percent are women of color.

If data is going to serve a diverse range of citizens and consumers rather than a small subset, it’s imperative that the rules of the game change.
